Lauren Harley is a contemporary abstract artist who concentrates on
oils and acrylics in her paintings, and uses a freestyle approach in her
process. "I notice that when I am painting my hands just kind of go
and do whatever they want to do, and I allow them to do it."
She begins by creating a palette and deciding how she wants light and dark
to play a part within the piece.
She experiments with color and texture, and often uses a unique
combination of instruments in her application including:
o Mixed media
o Concrete
o Polyurethane
o Found objects
Lauren Harley felt summoned be an artist. She heard the beckon of the
canvas one day during the summer of 2011. "The canvas kept calling
me. This little voice in my head kept saying you want to paint. You
need to palnt."
She set up a studio outside on her deck in Hyde Park and utilized the
natural light and organic inspiration she found all around her. She
began to play with color, texture, and application. "I want to be
versatile. It's all about exploration."
When asked about what her paintings mean to her, she creates a
narrative to describe and explain the shapes, colors, and depth
present in her work.
Lauren Harley is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, where she has an art studio where she can be creative and go into a world of unlimited possibilities within her work as well as herself.
Art allows me to be curious and to reach deep within myself to explore all
possibilities. It is my belief that without creativity our gifts and talents are stifled
and we lose a sense of self.
